Note that only a handful of Canadian medical schools accept a limited number of international students. Upon completion of the medical programme, you will go on to begin a residency training program in a specialty of your choice – this can last anywhere between 2-6 years depending on the specialty chosen.

Entry Requirements

  • Applicants must have first completed a pre-Med undergraduate degree (in subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, neuroscience, behavioural science, etc.). Check medical school websites for specific requirements about previous degrees.
  • A minimum GPA for admission which varies by medical school. Applicant should check medical schools website for GPA requirements.
  • Applicants must sit and score highly in the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) which tests scientific knowledge as well as skills such as problem-solving, reasoning and critical analysis.
  • Check the medical school websites to find out how to submit an application since this varies across the Canadian institutions.
  • An interview will most likely be required at some stage (if offered).
  • International applicants must take a verifiable English fluency test if English is not their first language.

Fees vary greatly across Canadian medical schools therefore their websites should be checked for specific figures regarding the tuition fee for Home students and International students. Scholarships are available that applicants may be eligible to apply for.
